Will Howard

Will Howard is the lead software engineer for Flash Scientific Technology. Flash seeks to revolutionize short-term meteorological hazard prediction leveraging emerging datasets, elastic computing, and machine learning. Through a thorough understanding of atmospheric dynamics, vital signals and parameters for formation of severe events, and forecasting processes, Flash is remodeling the process of warning generation and integrability of essential data for operational intelligence in various industries. Will studied Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah, and worked as a research associate for MesoWest completing mission critical validation efforts for NASA’s AVHRR polar-orbiting satellites, the Utah Department of Air Quality’s monitoring of urban pollutants via mobile instrumentation, and routine maintenance and programming of an extensive network of in-situ weather stations. After MesoWest, Will began to focus more intensely on software engineering, leading initial development and the release of a new cross-platform mobile app for CampMinder that connected parents to their children’s experiences at summer camp utilizing a platform built on resilient microservices with an elegant user experience. Will is an avid backcountry skier, and outdoor recreationist gaining inspiration and understanding through time spent in wild places and experiences high in the alpine.
